We’re named after National Cycle Network Route 2 — the long-distance cycle route that runs along England’s south coast from Dover to St Austell, threading through Brighton, Portsmouth and Exeter on its way west.
The Topsham-to-Exmouth section is one of the most loved on the whole route. Known locally as the Exe Estuary Trail, it’s a flat, traffic-free path that hugs the western edge of the estuary — past Powderham Castle, through Starcross, and down to the seafront at Exmouth. About 11 miles end to end, with a foot ferry shortcut across the river at the Turf Locks if you’d rather make a loop.
Lock up outside Route 2, come in for a coffee and a proper breakfast, and refuel before you ride on. Bikes are welcome, lycra is optional. We were named one of the Guardian’s Top 10 Cycling Cafes in the UK — and we take that seriously.
